“GIScience & Cross-border data 2026”
The Geospatial Summer School 2026 is here — and it’s not your typical summer programme. 🚀
Under the theme GIScience & Cross-border Data, this year’s edition is designed as a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) that brings together curious minds — students, educators, and researchers — to dive into the cutting edge of geospatial thinking beyond borders.
This year, the spotlight is on cross-border data analysis and the exciting possibilities unlocked by new and non-traditional data sources. Think social media, web scraping, and emerging datasets that reveal how spatial processes actually work — not just within borders, but across them.
The goal? To equip you with conceptual, analytical, and hands-on skills that help you truly understand cross-border spatial data — including its limits, its quirks, and its hidden patterns. You’ll explore how to:
-
rethink regions beyond administrative boundaries
-
capture spatial flows and cross-border interactions
-
uncover patterns that don’t stop at the border line
Working with real-world datasets, you’ll gain practical experience in data analysis and visualisation, building skills that apply far beyond cross-border contexts.
The programme follows a progressive learning journey — starting with big-picture thinking and gradually moving into hands-on analysis, visualisation, and your own independent project work.
