GIScience & GeoParticipation
“G3S GeoPart 2022”
Since its introduction in the 1970s, participatory methods have gained a lot of attention. With the advent of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and GIScience in general, novel implementations of such methods in digital participatory mapping tools have been extensively applied in many areas, both geographically and thematically. Geographical component became an essential aspect of many participatory projects. In this context, new possibilities for research in this field and consequent improvement of decision-making policies have appeared. Terms like Participatory GIS (PGIS), Public Participatory GIS (PPGIS), community-based mapping, GeoParticipation and others are now penetrated throughout various disciplines.
The G3S GeoPart 2022 offers an opportunity for the encounter of students, scholars, and experts in the field of GIScience and the umbrella topic of GeoParticipation. The summer school is designed to introduce students to contemporary advances in GeoParticipation within GIScience by a series of lectures, workshops and practicals. All the classes will be led and supervised by well-known experts in Participatory GIS. Moreover, the G3S GeoPart 2022 strives to establish an open platform for participants to bring their experiences, ideas, data and projects to share, work, present and discuss it.
The GeoSpatial Summer School primary focus is to provide and transfer new GIScience skills, techniques and knowledge in given topic both ways – from experts/scholars to the students, and vice versa. Building on the successful G3S organised by the Department of Geoinformatics (Palacký University Olomouc, Czechia) in the previous years, and after the two years of COVID-19, we have decided to continue with the activity and hold the event physically in 2022.
